Lawn Mowers and Other Small Engines: Drain gasoline and oil from all small engines. Hazardous items are prohibited from being stored in a self-storage facility, for your and everyone elses safety.
Large Appliances: Clean and dry all appliances prior to storage. Ensure they are empty. Store appliances upright and leave an opening in the door to allow ventilation. Protect fridge coils with blankets. Drain your washer.
Furniture: To the extent possible, disassemble your furniture. Otherwise, wrap legs in blankets and cover tabletops. Avoid rubbing during a move by placing blankets between larger items. Use furniture covers for longer-term storage. Leave lighter items in drawers to take advantage of space.
Chairs: stack seat to seat with paper or cloth between the seats.
Assembled furniture: bed frames and patio furniture should be disassembled. Place nuts and bolts in a clear plastic bag and tape together with the frame.
Mattresses: use mattress bags. If storing on the side, prop them upright to avoid sag.
Carpets and Rugs: roll up tight and secure with tape or rope.
Bicycles: Reduce rust by applying a small amount of oil on metal surfaces, but protect other items from oil by covering chain. Loosen handlebars and turn sideways. Remove pedals and attach to frame.
Sharp Corners: always protect sharp corners and edges with padding.
Do not pack or store perishable items or hazardous liquids or items in a storage unit. Please respect other tenants and dispose of these items as required by law.
Taking a photographic or video record of your goods is a great way to keep a complete inventory of your belongings.
